After being received with military honours, the Slovenian President and the Israeli President had a brief one-to-one meeting, followed by plenary talks between the delegation of the Republic of Slovenia and the delegation of the State of Israel, led by the respective presidents.
In his statement to the press, President Türk described President Shimon Peres as a great statesman of our time, who had contributed significantly to improving the situation in the world, in particular in the Middle East. He described relations between the Republic of Slovenia and the State of Israel as very good and highly developed. Dr Türk also expressed his hope that relations would develop further and in a direction to be as close as possible to the needs of both countries at a time of major transformational changes in the world. President Peres thanked the Slovenian President for his warm and friendly reception. He said that the green, quiet and human-friendly environment in Slovenia reminded him of his childhood. He also commended the successful economic development of Slovenia and expressed his respect for Slovenian's sensitivity to human rights issues.
