Within the framework of establishing Eilat as Israel's premier sports competition destination, the Fed Cup games will be held for the second consecutive year in the Red Sea resort of Eilat on February 1-4, 2012. The games, from the Europe/Africa Zone Group I, will include tennis players from Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Great Britain, Israel, Netherlands, Romania, Sweden and more.
The inaugural Fed Cup was held in 1963 and attracted 16 teams. The competition quickly established itself as one of the most important events in international tennis, growing over the years to become the largest international team competition in women's sport, with over 90 nations taking part in 2011.
Fed Cup is structured with an eight-nation World Group and eight-nation World Group II, contested over three weekends during the year. The remaining countries are then divided into three regional Zones depending on their location.
