The Standards Institution of Israel is hosting the General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 2009 at the David Intercontinental in Tel Aviv.
"The last IEC General Meeting held in Israel was in 1966 and a great deal has changed since then, both in IEC and in Israel. I hope that the mixture of the meetings of the different committees in the setting of beautiful Tel Aviv, with its new and old, its wonderful beaches and bustling business will serve to make the IEC 73rd General Meeting a grand success," said Doron Tamir, President of the Israel National Committee IEC -Israel.
The 73rd General Meeting, which will be held in Tel Aviv from Sunday 18 October until Thursday 22 October will feature meetings of 44 technical committees and subcommittees (with some meetings starting on 11 October), as well as meetings of the IEC conformity assessment community. Management meetings will as usual also be held throughout the week, culminating in Council Day on Thursday. In addition, the GM will feature a workshop for newly industrializing countries addressing "Safe use of electrical energy in mining and in the chemical, oil and gas industries."
The GM is expected to be attended by 1,200 representatives from 68 countries around the world. The largest delegation attending the GM is Japan with 150 representatives followed by the US with 100 representatives. Among the global companies represented at the GM are AT&T, Canon, Dell, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Hitachi, HP, IBM, Intel, Lexmark, Lucent, Michelin, .Microsoft, Motorola, Oracle, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Siemens, Sony.
